Taking advantage of the increased number of scholarships for the 2026 season, the Texas Longhorns signed Humble Summer Creek edge Brinley Tita on Wednesday.
Position coach LaAllen Clark extended an offer to the 6’2, 225-pounder on April 7. The only other offer reported for Tita came from DII Henderson State last November, who signed with Cisco College in February.
Tita was a productive player for the Houston-area powerhouse as a senior, recording 94 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, seven hurries, three forced fumbles, two blocked field goals, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery while earning Co-Defensive Player of the Year recognition in his district playing out of position at defensive tackle.
Unranked by the recruiting service, Tita took advantage of his quickness advantage over opposing interior offensive lineman to serve as a disruptive presence, but he’s a long-term developmental prospect for the Horns, much like defensive tackle Elijah Ali, another surprise addition for Texas back on National Signing Day.
With more scholarships available now to the Texas coaching staff, the most accurate way to view the signing of Tita is similar to a preferred walk on from previous years. The difference now is that the staff can focus on athletic upside rather than targeting the best athletes who also have the financial resources to pay their way through school.
