The Oklahoma Sooners may have gotten a gem in transfer portal wide receiver MacKenzie Alleyne, who’s been showing out during spring practice.
Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners made it a priority to bring in wide receivers through this past transfer portal. They added three receivers who all can be big-time contributors to a potential College Football Playoff team. But of the three, one of them seems to be flying under the radar the most from a national media perspective.
MacKenzie Alleyne, the Washington State transfer, is showing up all throughout spring practice. It seems like Alleyne is in a new highlight video posted by the OU social media team every other day. Alleyne is doing it with speed and fantastic all-tracking abilities. It’s clear he is on a mission.
“I feel like I have something to prove,” Alleyne said. “Not just at Oklahoma, just in my daily life. I want people to know who my name is. I want to stand out no matter what it is, and that’s just something I roll with every day of my life.”
The Sooners are going to have a tough time finding enough reps and playing time for all of the wide receivers they have. Nearly all of them are deserving of seeing the field in the SEC.
Alleyne wants to be the go-to player for the Sooners in 2026
Alleyne wasn’t necessarily a highly coveted player in the transfer portal by other teams nationally. However, he’s showing in spring practice that it doesn’t matter.
“I want to be the go-to player if you need something done,” Alleyne said. “I want to be that player you get the ball to. And that’s just something I always live by: I want the ball in my hands, I want to score touchdowns for the team, I want to make everybody in the stadium happy and excited…Once I got to (Washington State), I made the most out of everything I could get because I know I deserve the look that everybody else gets, I know I can go out here and make the plays and be the person I can be.”
The sophomore wide receiver is coming in at 6’1 “, 175 lbs. He has the kind of size that offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle likes for the role Alleyne will play in his offense. Last season at Washington State, Allyene finished with 72 yards on four catches and added one touchdown. Alleyne only played four total plays on offense last season. However, he played all 13 games, with some special-team appearances.
It is clear that Alleyne will have a role in this offense. As for being the go-to player, he will have to battle Isaiah Sategna for that title.
