Notre Dame had very good success recruiting LaSalle College High School last season, landing five-star safety Joey O'Brien and five-star offensive lineman Grayson McKeogh. The Irish coaching staff is looking to add another talented LaSalle player in the 2028 class after offering talented wide receiver Owen Johnson.

The Irish coaches offered Johnson on April 1st, and for the 5-foot-10, 180-pound receiver, the opportunity to play for the Irish could be too hard to pass up.

"Getting the Notre Dame offer meant a lot to me," said Johnson, who added the offer is committable after connecting with head coach Marcus Freeman. "I found out when Coach Freeman told me, which made it even more special. It was a big moment for me and my family, definitely a blessing and something I’ve worked toward for a long time. My reaction was just excitement and gratitude.”

What Johnson appreciates the most about Notre Dame staff is just how honest and approachable they are. From wide receivers coach Mike Brown to the personnel staff, Notre Dame has developed a very transparent relationship with Johnson, who is now up to 12 offers.

"I’ve been connecting with the receivers coach and other members of the staff," Johnson said. "They’ve been real with me and consistent, which stands out. I like how they coach hard but also build relationships with their players.

"When I think of Notre Dame, I think of tradition, discipline, and excellence," Johnson added. "Not just on the field but academically too. It’s a place that develops you as a player and a person, and that’s something I respect."

This offseason, Johnson is gearing up for college camps – and a big season in the talent-rich Keystone State. His recruiting is almost certainly going to skyrocket after the upcoming season. His strong offer list includes Oregon, Ole miss, Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Duke, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and West Virginia in addition to Notre Dame.

"This offseason I’m focused on getting stronger, faster, while also perfecting my craft at receiver," Johnson stated. "I don’t have anything lined up yet but am planning to get out to a few schools for visits and continue building relationships with different programs. I’m going to take my time with the process and make sure I’m making the best decision for me and my family. No set timeline yet, but I want to be thorough before I commit anywhere."

Despite playing opposite of O'Brien, who was also a dominant receiver as a prep star, Johnson hauled in 73 catches for 988 yards and 13 touchdowns. Combined with his rushing production and return game production, Johnson racked up over 1,600 total yards.
