Will Stein continues to remain hard at work building a new team in Lexington, where he added to Kentucky’s already impressive 2027 college football recruiting class with another four-star safety. Stein received his 10th commitment of the class on Saturday when Tristin Hughes confirmed his intent to sign with the Wildcats.
Hughes committed to Kentucky over offers from Michigan, Virginia Tech and Penn State, On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett reported. He had also listed Miami, Auburn and Purdue as part of his final six teams in March.
“BBN, LET’S WORKKK,” Hughes said in his initial reaction, via Fawcett.
He added that he wanted to “turn this up” and posted a picture of himself next to a banner that said “it’s Stein time in the bluuuue graaaass” on X, formerly Twitter.

Kentucky’s new 5-foot-11, 195-pound safety from Rocky River High School in Ohio is also listed as an athlete on all college football recruiting sites, playing on both sides of the ball as a junior. He was previously pledged to Syracuse before announcing his decommitment in February.
After re-opening his recruitment, Hughes announced he would choose a new school by April 2, but postponed that announcement date to attend the Wildcats’ spring game. He announced his commitment to Stein and his team shortly thereafter.
Hughes racked up 65 tackles, three interceptions, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles during the 2025 high school football season, per On3 Sports. He also recorded 63 carries, 391 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, with 75 catches for 1,332 receiving yards and 17 scores through the air.
With Hughes now in the mix, Kentucky now has the ninth-best 2027 recruiting class in the country, according to 247 Sports. The class is currently led by four-star quarterback Jake Nawrot, a top-10 quarterback and top-100 overall recruit.
