The Texas Longhorns have already put together an impressive 2027 recruiting class. Headlining the group is five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, who committed back on Nov. 29.
Now, they’re in the mix to land another one of the nation’s top pass catchers. The Longhorns hosted wide receiver Monshun Sales for an unofficial visit on Wednesday, and have another official visit scheduled for June 5.
He will also be taking official visits with the Indiana Hoosiers (April 24), Alabama Crimson Tide (May 29), Ohio State Buckeyes (June 12) and Miami Hurricanes (June 19). Texas has found itself trending upward in a high-powered recruiting battle.
Unfortunately for the Longhorns, though, their efforts may not be enough. In an article from Rivals, recruiting analyst Greg Smith predicts that Sales will pass on Texas and instead choose Alabama.
“Alabama, Indiana, Miami and others are pursuing him hard but he’s always loved Alabama,” Smith wrote. “It’s hard to see him passing up the chance to play in Tuscaloosa. But Texas is rising quickly here… Alabama is still where I’d predict right now. But the gap is being closed by Texas quickly.”
Sales would be a major addition for the Crimson Tide. At 6-foot-5 and 201 pounds, he’s listed as a five-star recruit, the No. 1 wide receiver and the No. 7 player in the nation by Rivals Industry Rankings.
Last season for Lawrence North High School, he appeared in 10 games, racking up 37 receptions for 794 yards and nine touchdowns. Sales would be Alabama’s fifth addition in the 2027 recruiting class, giving a boost to the group, which currently ranks 34th in the nation.
If Smith is correct, then Texas will need to look elsewhere to add at the position. However, the Rivals recruiting prediction machine does give the Longhorns the best chance (27.7%) to land four-star wide receiver Tre Moore.
