As the Nittany Lions continue their spring practices ahead of Saturday's Blue-White game, questions are starting to be answered in certain position groups for the new regime. One group that has especially come to the forefront of these discussions is wide receiver. What with several key transfers from Iowa State such as Chase Sowell and Brett Esklidsen and homegrown talent such as Koby Howard, Penn State will be expecting a lot of key players to step up this coming season. However, it is a freshman wide receiver who was converted from safety who has been receiving the most praise.

Accordng to several reports, the entire Penn State coaching staff have been impressed by freshman Amarion Jackson. Jackson had been an initial Iowa State signing, but made the move to Happy Valley when Matt Campbell left. During that time, Jackson's role with the squad was heavily assessed. The original plan was to have him convert to safety, but after several injuries to key players, an opportunity arose for Jackson to get significant reps at receiver.

Ever since, Campbell and his staff have been effusive in their praise of him."I don't know that there's a true freshman that's had a bigger spring," Campbell said of Jackson's improvement. "… He's a dynamic football player, and I think he's a guy that's certainly on track right now to push to play as a true freshman."

"AJ has been a bright spot to the room," wide receivers coach Kashif Moore continued . "Coming in as a mid-year freshman, sticking to his process and a routine, he's been highly coachable. He's taking the coaching from the meeting room to the practice field".

For a player who proved to be just as versatile at the high school level, Jackson's progress has been measured by his consistency and ability to absorb information as he goes along. While he will come under a lot more scrutiny once preseason officially gets under way, he has caused quite the stir amongst the new regime in Happy Valley.
