Alex Golesh continues to quietly work on his inaugural SEC recruiting class. The first-year head coach added another key piece to Auburn’s 2027 college football class, adding four-star running back recruit Myson Johnson-Cook.
Johnson-Cook, an “elite” top-10 prospect, committed to the Tigers on Saturday, Hayes Fawcett reported for Rivals. The 6-foot-2 running back made the decision as he prepares for his senior season at East St. Louis High School in southern Illinois.
“Coach AG, the head coach, it’s his first year, but I think he’ll be able to flip the program around,” Johnson-Cook said during his announcement, via Rivals on YouTube. “Playoff contenders, National Championship contenders. Coach Larry Porter, he’s got a good history with running backs my size, so I’m putting my future in his hands. I think he will definitely develop me into the person I plan to be… Auburn just felt like home since the first time I visited. The fan base, the culture — the running back culture there is awesome.”
Auburn’s latest commit picked the Tigers out of his final five schools, which also included Miami, Ole Miss, LSU and Kentucky.
Johnson-Cook is the second-best running back of the class on ESPN and No. 4 by 247 Sports and On3 Sports. He is a consensus top-three prospect in the state of Illinois.
Johnson-Cook is now the third hard commit for Golesh’s 2027 recruiting class. Auburn previously had four-star defensive lineman Donivan Moore and three-star tight end George Lamons Jr. making up the early group.
Auburn’s 2027 college football recruiting class currently ranks 48th nationally on 247 Sports with its three commitments. Golesh is nowhere close to being finished ahead of his first season with the Tigers, but he has a while to go to catch up with his new SEC rivals.
