The college football offseason is one of the busiest times for high school recruiting. It’s an area that head coach Steve Sarkisian has found success with since beginning his tenure with the Texas Longhorns.
He and his staff have quickly gotten to work building up the 2027 cycle. With nine commitments, they already rank 7th in the SEC and 13th in the nation. However, they have yet to bring in a running back.
That’s why SaRod Baker, out of DeSoto, Texas, has become a top priority for the Longhorns. He’s a four-star recruit, the No. 6 running back and the No. 146 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.
Texas is one of just three teams set to host Baker for an official visit. Along with the Longhorns (June 12), he is set to visit the Texas A&M Aggies (June 5) and Texas Tech Red Raiders (June 19), all of which are in-state schools.
However, the Longhorns must now overcome a major obstacle in their pursuit of the running back. On Monday, Rivals reporter Hayes Fawcett announced that Baker has committed to Texas Tech. That means they’ll be pushing for a flip when he makes it onto campus in June.

For the Red Raiders, it’s an exciting outcome. Baker boosts their 2027 cycle, which already ranks first in the Big 12 and second in the nation with eight commitments. He is the first running back they have brought in.
If the Longhorns choose to take a step back in his recruitment, they have a handful of other options to pursue. Other running backs Texas has extended offers to include five-star David Gabriel Georges, four-star Landen Williams-Callis, four-star Tyson Robinson and four-star Noah Roberts.
