University of Hawaii football player Landon Sims and track and field athlete Lilian Turban earned the Jack Bonham Award at the 13th annual H Awards on Tuesday night at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Bonham Award is the UH athletic department’s highest individual honor.

Record-setting achievements in track and field and leadership on the football field, combined with academic success and a dedication to community service were the common thread of the two recipients.

The Jack Bonham Award is named for the late assistant athletics director who was killed in a plane crash in American Samoa in 1974. Bonham was returning to the islands from New Zealand, where he was on a recruiting trip at the British Commonwealth Games.
