Ohio State football was handed a double dose of bad news at the hands of Notre Dame and a Big Ten foe

Recruiting is picking up for the Ohio Stare Buckeyes with two commitments recently. Unfortunately, the good news didn’t come on the trail this weekend with Ryan Day’s program missing on two key targets.

Recruiting is picking up for Ohio State football with spring over and plenty of summer visits getting ready to take place. The Buckeyes have picked up two offensive line commitments in the class of 2026, but it hasn’t been all good news on the trail for them.

Ohio State is open to taking a second quarterback in the class of 2027 alongside already committed Brady Edmunds. The Buckeyes watched one of their top targets at the position, as well as an offensive line target commit elsewhere to start the weekend.

Top Ohio State commitments for 2027

  • No. 1 EDGE DJ Jacobs
  • No. 4 WR Jamier Brown
  • No. 6 IOL Kellen Wymer
  • No. 13 S Eli Johnson
  • No. 19 LB Quinton Cypher

Notre Dame steals Ohio State QB target

2027 QB Champ Monds IV announced his college decision on Friday and he chose the field over Ohio State. Monds is heading to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, whom he picked over the Buckeyes and Florida State.

Monds is a high-potential developmental quarterback at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds from Vero Beach, Florida. 247 Sports’ Composite has him ranked as the No. 20 quarterback and No. 264 player nationally. Monds has over 30 offers and would be an intriguing player to watch develop under Ryan Day.

Ohio State was high on Monds as he’s coming out of high school a year early. The Florida native is a very capable pocket passer who played at OSU under Day.

Ohio State misses out on offensive line addition to 2027 class

The Buckeyes have picked up commitments from four-star offensive linemen Jimmy Kalis and Davis Seaman in recent weeks. However, Ohio State missed out on one of its OL targets to begin the weekend.

Ohio State football missed out on four-star OL Jackson Roper, but he’s still going to play in the Big Ten. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound interior offensive lineman committed to the UCLA Bruins over the Buckeyes, Michigan, Auburn, and Texas A&M.

Roper is the No. 221 player nationally and No. 12 interior offensive lineman. Roper made a visit to Columbus in April and the feeling was that Ohio State was a top option for him. It didn’t come to fruition and the Buckeyes remain at five offensive linemen committed for 2027.
