ACC Rooting Guide: Week 12

Here we go again. The Miami Hurricanes were the highest ranked ACC team in the second CFP rankings. The fanbase (at least most of it) has now been sucked back into this season and the possibility of playing in the 12-team playoff for the first time. And for that, we must root accordingly!

Week 12 bye teams: Cal, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse.

Let’s do some rooting. Also, I will now use the CFP rankings as opposed to the AP Poll.

Clemson @ #20 Louisville – 11/14 at 7:30 PM EST, TV – ESPN

Could the Tigers be playing their best football of the season right now? Maybe. They gave up a ton of points to SMU and Duke, but they also scored a lot of points in those games. The 24-10 win over FSU isn’t front page news, but it has to provide some confidence. Dabo should have his team fired up and ready to pull off the upset tonight. Let’s go Clemson.

Matchup of the week

#9 Notre Dame @ #22 Pitt – 11/15 at 12:00 PM EST, TV – ABC

Here. We. Go. This is a big one folks. The Panthers can do the entire college football world a huge favor and all but eliminate Notre Dame from CFP contention tomorrow afternoon in front of what should be a raucous home crowd. I am not looking ahead to Miami’s game at Pitt in two weeks yet. There is too much that can happen between now and then. Let’s to Pitt.

#19 Virginia @ Duke – 11/15 at 3:30 PM EST, TV – ESPN

This is a tough one. Virginia only has Va Tech after this matchup. Duke still has to play at UNC and vs Wake Forest to end the year. The Blue Devils have the tougher road, no doubt. Virginia’s only chance to get into the CFP is getting to Charlotte and winning the conference championship. I think it’s a long shot. Let’s go Duke.

#16 Georgia Tech @ Boston College – 11/15 at 3:30 PM EST, TV – ACCN

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a bye and looking to reestablish themselves as the favorite in the ACC. Good for them. Sadly, I don’t see GT slipping up tomorrow afternoon in Chestnut Hill. Boston College is really bad this season. Plus, they are coming off a whooping by SMU at home last week. If there were ever a time for the upset of the year, it’s now. Let’s go Boston College.

UNC @ Wake Forest – 11/15 at 4:30 PM EST, TV – CW

The Demon Deacons did every non-Virginia fan a huge favor last week by beating the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. I know I loved it. Bill Belichick has the Tar Heels playing better, but they are a long way from being a good football team. Wake Forest is a good football team. They’ll probably be an even better team next season. Let’s go Wake Forest.

Virginia Tech @ FSU – 11/15 at 7:30 PM EST, TV – ACCN

The Seminoles crushed Wake Forest two weeks ago, then lost to Clemson by two touchdowns last week. They are truly a conundrum wrapped in a bad team. Or is it the other way around? Doesn’t matter. The Hokies could make a statement for their next head coach by beating a big name like Florida State. This is the easiest choice of the week. Let’s go Virginia Tech.

See you next week!
