As the Spartans continue to pile up offers extended across the country, we here at Roundtable Sports stay committed to getting your eyes on every one of them.
Things move fast in college sports these days — on the field and off. Recruiting doesn’t have a bye week or any real downtime. There are constant phone calls, nonstop conversations, and communication happening through just about every app imaginable.
Michigan State has continued to keep its finger on the pulse of the 2027 recruiting class, already landing several big-time commitments while also building strong relationships with plenty of uncommitted prospects.
This past weekend, the Spartans extended an offer to Texas wide receiver Maliek Brown and also offered Georgia cornerback Cordaro “Shyne” Parham, also known as “Pops.”
Parham is currently a very under-the-radar defender who, at the moment, does not hold a star rating from 247Sports or a composite ranking. Still, that hasn’t stopped Michigan State from getting involved early.
Parham attends Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Georgia, where he has quietly built an impressive résumé over the last three seasons.
The Spartans sent defensive backs coach Hank Poteat to handle the recruitment, and 247Sports currently lists Michigan State as “warm” on Parham’s recruiting profile.
Along with the Spartans, Parham currently holds offers from Alabama State Hornets football and Erskine Flying Fleet football.
Parham is listed at 6-foot-2 and 178 pounds as an athlete on 247Sports. Despite being labeled as an ATH, he projects heavily as a defensive back at the next level — most likely at cornerback — if he ultimately decides to call East Lansing home.
The talented Georgia prospect has already set an official visit date to Michigan State for June 5, giving the Spartans a big opportunity to continue building momentum in his recruitment.
When you turn on the film, Parham’s athleticism immediately stands out. His hip movement looks effortless, and his speed flashes whether he’s lining up in live game action or working through drills in practice reps.
Parham was also named First Team All-Region 8-AAA at defensive back, another impressive accomplishment in what has already been a successful high school career. Across his three varsity seasons, he has helped lead the Dragons to 37 wins, three region championships, and two state championship game appearances.
Michigan State seems determined to lock down the future of the program, and doing that doesn’t always mean throwing all your resources at the biggest nationally known names. Sometimes, the best evaluations come when staffs are willing to go off the beaten path and trust what they see before the rest of the country catches on.
That appears to be the route the Spartans are taking with Parham.
Players with something to prove often carry the biggest chip on their shoulder, and Parham certainly fits that mold right now. He may be undervalued and underrecruited at the moment, but Michigan State clearly believes there is much more there than what the rankings currently show.
The Spartans already hold seven commitments in the 2027 class, but only one defensive back is currently committed — safety Ty’ire Clark. Interestingly enough, Clark is also currently the lowest-ranked commit in Michigan State’s class, which further shows the Spartans are prioritizing evaluations and fit over recruiting hype.
More importantly, it leaves plenty of room for additional talent in the secondary.
Not to speak on anyone’s behalf, but if I were a betting man, I’d say the Spartans have a very real chance to ultimately land Parham following his June 5 official visit.
