Rock M, but the ‘M’ stands for ‘makeshift.’
Missouri football’s final home game of the 2025 season is this upcoming Saturday, Nov. 15 in Columbia. The matchup against Mississippi State will be the Tigers’ eighth and last game on Faurot Field this season, which will also serve as an earlier-than-usual senior day for the team.
After Saturday’s game, Mizzou will close the regular season with back-to-back road trips at Oklahoma and then Arkansas.
One of Mizzou’s longstanding traditions for Senior Day involves the grassy hill and Rock M, which has notably been absent from the north end zone this year due to ongoing construction on the $250 million renovation of Memorial Stadium.
Missouri will carry on the tradition where senior players, provided they win, collect a whitewashed stone and are carried off of the field by their teammates.
The Rock M has been a fixture at Mizzou’s home stadium since 1927, when freshmen stacked leftover rocks from the stadium’s construction to create the emblem. Every year, incoming Missouri freshmen whitewash the rocks at the beginning of the school year.
To make sure that goes on, Mizzou has made a temporary solution.
The athletic department has set up a temporary M, constructing one on the small grassy patch in front where Missouri Hall of Famer Brock Olivo’s number is retired and his name is engraved on the bricks on the stadium wall. His spot in the ‘Ring of Honor’ is in front of the west stand.

The Rock M will return, albeit on a smaller berm overlooking the field planted in the middle of soon-to-be premium seats, before the 2026 season, when renovations are on pace to be complete.
This season, 20 players — provided Missouri wins — will head toward the west stand instead of the north berm to pick up their keepsake. Here’s who will walk for the Tigers this season:

“This group of men have worked extremely hard,” Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz said. “Some have been here for a long time, some have been here for a short time, but all have contributed to the success of Mizzou football, and we’re going to work really hard to show our appreciation to them.”
As far as the Tribune can tell, even while eligibility standards and exemptions are still somewhat muddied waters and prone to change, all 20 of the above players will exhaust their eligibility at the end of the 2025 season.
