Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bearcats trade black uniform barbs

The Ohio State Buckeyes football team has unveiled a new, all-black uniform for the 2026 season.

Last worn in a 2022 win over Wisconsin, the Buckeyes, who are 4-0 in black, will wear the new "colors" in select games.

The thing is, Ohio State's official colors are scarlet and gray.

That did not stop the Ohio State media team from posting the new football threads calling them, "THE best black uniform in college football." That was a reaction to a reaction.

Once word of Ohio State's black unis was out on Monday, May 11, the University of Cincinnati responded.

Ohio State's "X-clamation" of having "THE best black uniform," a takeoff of The Ohio State University, came about an hour after the Cincinnati Bearcats media team posted a response claiming to have "the best black uniform in college football."

The University of Cincinnati's official colors are red and black. Ohio State first wore all-black uniforms in 2015 against Penn State. UC has worn black uniforms since well before that, including the Sept. 21, 2002 UC vs. Ohio State game at then-Paul Brown Stadium. UC had a 19-14 lead that year heading into the fourth quarter, but Ohio State scored nine unanswered points to prevail. UC quarterback Gino Guidugli had two potential game-winning touchdown passes dropped in the final minute.
