Iowa football hires former NFL coach, Hawkeye alum Tom Moore

The Iowa Hawkeyes have added to their coaching staff with a hire that brings more experience than almost anyone in the football world.

Iowa and head coach Kirk Ferentz have hired Tom Moore, the 87-year-old former NFL coach and Hawkeye alum, to join the coaching staff as a senior consultant to the head coach and an offensive advisor.

"I have known Tom Moore for over a decade and am thrilled that he has agreed to join our program in an advisory role. Coach Moore has had a long and very successful career in football. He was a player at Iowa, coached at the collegiate level, and spent many years working alongside Hall of Fame coaches in the National Football League. I am grateful that a four-time Super Bowl champion will share his wisdom and perspectives with us – coaches and players," Ferentz said of Moore.

Tom Moore played for the Hawkeyes from 1958-1960 while attending college at the University of Iowa. He was a quarterback during his time in Iowa City. Upon graduation, he joined Iowa in a coaching capacity that kicked off a long and storied career.

In college, Moore spent time at Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota before making the move to professional football. During his time in the NFL, he spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, and, most recently, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As Iowa looks to develop Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown, they can rely on Moore's experience around former greats, such as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, each of whom he won a Super Bowl with.
