It’s a new day in Blacksburg — a new era at Virginia Tech. On Thursday, the Hokies received a commitment from consensus four-star quarterback Peter Bourque, beating Georgia, Penn State and others in a head-to-head battle.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Bourque is a native of Marion, Massachusetts, and plays at Tabor Academy. He is a one-time Michigan commit who held offers from some of the nation’s top schools, but it came down to Georgia and Virginia Tech. His longstanding relationship with head coach James Franklin clearly helped the Hokies in this recruitment.
Virginia Tech currently has four quarterbacks in 2026: Ethan Grunkemeyer, Bryce Baker, Kelden Ryan and Troy Huhn. All have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
Bourque is considered one of 2027’s top 100 players: He is the No. 80-ranked player by 247Sports, No. 82 in the 247Sports composite rankings and No. 82 by Rivals/On3.
Bourque is Virginia Tech’s 12th commitment for 2027. After his commitment, the Hokies moved up to No. 17 in 247Sports team recruiting rankings in 2027. The Hokies have the 19th-ranked class, according to Rivals/On3.
Bourque’s commitment is huge on many levels. A pro-style passer, Bourque already has elite size and has shown a willingness to squeeze the ball into tight windows. He is an underrated runner, too, having rushed for almost 700 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. But Bourque fits what Franklin wants in a quarterback: someone who can efficiently operate from the pocket.
Why is this commitment so important? Virginia Tech just beat Georgia in a head-to-head battle for a player, a quarterback, the Bulldogs wanted. And Georgia wasn’t the only top program that wanted Bourque. Franklin’s presence was huge here, but so is Virginia Tech’s commitment to NIL.
A great day for Virginia Tech.
