Could there be a new 2027 Notre Dame defensive line recruiting target to know? There is a not-so-new name to keep a close eye on.
Notre Dame football is working to make a major statement in 2027 defensive line recruiting over the next few days. The defensive tackle group is the main topic of conversation with elite 2027 Chicago (Ill.) St. Patrick star David Folorunsho set to pick between the Fighting Irish, Miami, and Texas Tech on Friday. Head coach Marcus Freeman and Co. also remain hopeful of several talented defensive tackles, including Marcus Fakatou, Brayden Parks, and Tyler Alexander.
While that is the top group Notre Dame has been working with for a while now, there appears to be another name that Fighting Irish fans should keep a close eye on. 2028 Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee defensive lineman Segun Alexander announced on Thursday that he was reclassifying to the 2027 recruiting class. He is a player that the Irish staff has been high on early on.
It will be interesting to see how Alexander changes the formula for Notre Dame, if at all. He is a very talented player that I imagine the Irish staff will continue to pursue. Would they choose to take him over another top target on the board? That is a guessing game at the moment, but it is never a bad thing to have more quality options out there.
Segun Alexanderâs recruiting background
Alexander is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Alexander is currently rated as the No. 210 overall player, the No. 22 defensive lineman, and the No. 27 player from the state of Georgia for the 2028 recruiting class. Obviously, that ranking will change as he switches over to the 2027 class.
If those rankings donât impress you, Alexanderâs offer list certainly will. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Cal, Michigan State, West Virginia, UNC, Kansas, and Syracuse, among several others.
The 6-4, 285-pound defensive lineman put together a tremendous season in 2025. In 12 games, Alexander managed to collect 36 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks. Alexander also had 19 more quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, and another fumble recovery. His upside as a playmaking interior presence is extremely high on the college level.
