Country music superstar and East Tennessee native Kenny Chesney took a big loss with Tennessee Vols fans this week, and it was all thanks to fellow East Tennessee native Morgan Wallen.

For a long time, country music superstar Kenny Chesney, an East Tennessee native, was known for being one of the biggest celebrity Tennessee Vols fans.

That reputation, however, has taken a hit over the years due to Chesney often wearing the apparel of other teams when playing concerts in various cities.

We’ve seen Chesney, for example, in Florida Gators helmets and Georgia Bulldogs hats.

Plenty of Vols fans have rejected Chesney’s fandom because of his fashion choices.

Chesney’s defense is that it’s simply part of being a performer — pandering to paying concert goers is good for business.

Kenny Chesney takes a loss with Tennessee Vols fans

Fellow East Tennessee native and Vols fan Morgan Wallen took a different approach than Chesney while playing back-to-back concerts in Gainesville, the home of the Gators, this weekend.

Wallen brought out some Florida legends — Tim Tebow and Steve Spurrier — but he stopped short of wearing any Gators gear. He also declined to do the Gator chomp.

Plenty of Vols fans took to social media to point out the differences between Chesney and Wallen when playing in a city that’s home to an SEC rival.

Everyone has their own way of doing things in the entertainment industry. I understand Chesney’s choices, but I also understand why Vols fans are hard on him.

And in defense of Vols fans, Chesney is successful enough at this point that he doesn’t need to pander to any college football fan bases.
