The Oklahoma Sooners grabbed a defensive playmaker in the transfer portal, but now he’s being sued by the Oregon Ducks.
The Oklahoma Sooners hit the transfer portal hard this offseason. They addressed several positions and, overall, improved their team. However, one of the players they picked up in the transfer portal is now in the news.
Oklahoma Sooners defensive back Dakoda Fields is being sued by Oregon
According to Ryan Clark of the Oregonian, Oregon is suing former Oregon football player and current Oklahoma player Dakoda Fields for an alleged breach of contract. Fields is getting sued by his former school over nearly $30,000. Fields was supposed to pay Oregon by April 20, and has yet to do so.
The Sooners got Fields out of the transfer portal to compete in the secondary and provide much-needed depth. Fields agreed to pay the university $39,882.30 in exchange for a release from his contract upon his decision to transfer. According to Clark, Fields eventually paid Oregon $29,882.30, but Oregon is seeking the remaining $10,000 plus interest.
"Pursuant to section 7 of the Contract, the University is entitled to reimbursement of its attorney fees, costs, and disbursements plus statutory interest of 9% from April 21, 2026, until paid."
Midseason, with Oregon in the midst of a playoff run, Fields reportedly made it known he intended to transfer after the season. And, Dan Lanning, the Oregon head coach, wasn't too fond of that.
"He didn't come to work today," Lanning said on Nov. 5. "I- we haven't talked to Dakoda. So, I guess that's just the way it goes nowadays."
Fields is only a redshirt freshman next season, and with his 6-2 frame and speed, Venables could be interested in seeing how he develops in Crimson and Cream.
Fields only played three games this previous season, on a minimal snap count. He has the right build and tools to fit in perfectly with this secondary. And, with the amount of injuries OU struggles with, they may need him in a big way.
