The Tennessee Volunteers and the Ohio State Buckeyes are locked into a tense recruiting battle for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, the No. 10 overall high school player in the nation.
The Tennessee Vols and the Ohio State Buckeyes are in the midst of a recruiting battle for 2027 five-star running back David Gabriel Georges.
Gabriel Georges, 6-foot/205 pounds from Chattanooga, TN (by way of Canada), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 running back in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee.
The coveted running back is planning to announce his commitment on July 22.
Ohio State’s “secret plan” to help them land David Gabriel Georges isn’t going to work as they hoped
Earlier this month, it was pointed out that Ohio State is trying to flip 2027 four-star quarterback Keegan Croucher from the Ole Miss Rebels.
Croucher is teammates with Gabriel Georges at Baylor School (Croucher, the starting quarterback at Baylor School, is one of the reasons Gabriel Georges is taking an official visit to Ole Miss next month). It’s believed that having some former high school teammates with him in college is important to Gabriel Georges (notably, a few of his former high school teammates currently play for the Vols).
Ohio State has a quarterback committed in 2027 four-star recruit Brady Edmunds. The Buckeyes, however, are reportedly open to signing two quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Flipping Croucher, in theory, would make Ohio State a more attractive destination for Gabriel Georges.
“When Ohio State visited Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School for five-star running back David Gabriel Georges, the coaches also checked in on Ole Miss QB commit Keegan Croucher to see if there was any level of intrigue to flip to the superpower program,” wrote On3’s Adam Gorney this week.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes — and fortunately for the Volunteers — it doesn’t sound like Croucher is interested in flipping.
“I’m pretty locked in with Ole Miss,” said Croucher this month to On3. “It’s definitely intriguing but I’m good where I’m at. Their whole thing was just, ‘Think about it and let us know.’ If something ever happens with Ole Miss, they’d be up there, but I’m locked in.”
It’s a smart play by Ohio State — this battle is close enough that it could be the smallest thing that determines which school lands Gabriel Georges — but it doesn’t look like it’s going to work as the Buckeyes hoped.
This battle, though, is still a coin flip between Ohio State and Tennessee.
