The Notre Dame 2027 defensive line class has a chance to be an elite group. There could be some more good news on the horizon.

The recruitment of 2027 Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice defensive tackle Brayden Parks has been an intriguing one for Notre Dame football. With Parks being a recruiting target right in their backyard, many expected head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish to push hard and hopefully close on him quickly. We have seen Parks, however, go through the process, and it has had several ups and downs.

Oregon was a team a few months ago that seemingly had some momentum, but Notre Dame did a good job recapturing the top spot. Then, once again, the Ducks surfaced as a potential spoiler for Notre Dame’s efforts with Parks several weeks ago. There began to be some pessimism on the Fighting Irish side, but they were still battling.

Despite that latest turn, it appears that Freeman, defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, and the Fighting Irish have once again recovered. They appear to be the team to beat once again. Rivals recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong has logged an expert prediction for Notre Dame to land Parks in the end, which would be a massive victory for this Irish staff.

As I wrote recently at A to Z Sports, I was conflicted based on the folks I had spoken with about the Parks situation, and I wasn’t ready to give up hope for Notre Dame. If Wiltfong is correct in his prediction, this would be a masterful job by the Irish staff. With Aidan O’Neil and David Folorunsho already in the class, Parks would be another great commitment.

If they are also able to land pass rushers Abraham Sesay and Jackson Vaughn, then we are talking about an elite 2027 defensive line class.

Brayden Parks’ recruiting background

Parks is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Parks currently sits as the No. 172 overall player and No. 19 defensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting class. He is also pegged as the No. 10 player in the state of Illinois, a very important area for the Irish. 247 Sports is actually the highest on Parks right now, sitting as the No. 130 overall player on their individual ranking.

The offer list for Parks is even more impressive than his recruiting rankings. Some of the top programs that have offered Parks includes the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Ole Miss, Penn State, USC, Miami, Auburn, Nebraska, Michigan State, Indiana, Kansas State, Iowa, Illinois, Washington, Arkansas, Arizona State, Iowa State, Minnesota, UNC, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, and Kansas, among several others.

The 6-3, 305-pound defensive tackle was a tremendous player for Brother Rice as a junior in 2025. In 13 games that he played in, Parks managed to record 44 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks. His impact is a lot greater than the box score might suggest, possessing an impressive blend of size, power, and movement skills. It is hard to miss big No. 98 on the field for Brother Rice.
