Washington has dipped into Utah to look for reinforcements along the offensive line in the 2028 class.
Composite four-star offensive tackle Samiu Taukiuvea from West (UT) High School near Salt Lake City reported an offer from the Huskies on Wednesday, his 18th reported offer according to 247Sports. Ranked the No. 109 overall player and No. 14 offensive tackle by the 247Sports composite rankings, Taukiuvea also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Penn State, Utah, and UCLA.
Utah has been on Taukiuvea the longest of the major schools in contention for his play, offering him back in March of 2025 under previous head coach Kyle Whittingham. Michigan, where Whittingham is now the head coach, is not among the teams that have offered Taukiuvea listed on 247Sports, but they are still believed to be one of his top choices given his connection to Whittingham.
Grateful to receive an offer to the University of Washington, @UW_Football . Thank you! #GoHuskies@coachsolovi@ToniuFonoti77@westpanthersfb@GregBiggins@BrandonHuffman@Rivals@247recruiting@Andy_Pham1@adamgorney@CFala3@ScottEklundpic.twitter.com/QYH4WDcJ4S

With long arms for his frame and a lean 270-pound frame, Taukiuvea looks natural in space at tackle right now and could very well grow into a college tackle body. But even if he doesn't, his highlight tape as a run blocker and obvious lower-body strength will lend well to a college career on the inside.
Taukiuvea had a busy April, taking unofficial visits to Purdue, Oregon, Utah, SMU, North Texas, Penn State, San Diego State, USC, and UCLA. With that extensive a list already down, expect Taukiuvea to appear on the sideline for one of Washington's games this fall if they're going to emerge as a true contender for his commitment.
Washington does not have any players from Utah on their 2026 roster after defensive tackles Logan Sagapolu and Simote Pepa graduated last season. But Jedd Fisch's staff has canvassed nearly the entire West Coast in their quest for talented additions to the roster, so the fact that they've ventured into Utah for one of the more exciting prospects in the 2028 class is no surprise.
