Quarterback Blake Shapen‘s status was in question for Mississippi State football’s Week 12 game against Missouri, but appears that he will be available.
Shapen suffered an unspecified injury in the third quarter of MSU’s 41-21 loss to Georgia on Nov. 8. He missed the team’s Nov. 10 practice, but then was listed probable on the initial injury report on Nov. 12. Shapen was taken off the injury report on Nov. 14, indicating that he will be available.
The Bulldogs (5-5, 1-5 SEC) are playing at No. 24 Missouri (6-3, 2-3) on Nov. 15 (6:45 p.m., SEC Network) in need of one more win to clinch bowl eligibility for the first time since 2022.
Coach Jeff Lebby said on Nov. 10 that freshman Kamario Taylor would be the starter if Shapen was not “truly healthy.” It would be the first career start for Taylor, the former four-star from Noxubee County. Taylor has replaced Shapen in two consecutive games because of injuries and scored five touchdowns.
Shapen has completed 65.2% of his passes this season for 2,234 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Taylor is 11-for-19 passing this season with 174 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also has 200 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
