Where Florida football lands in SEC post-spring power rankings

Entering the year, Florida was viewed as one of the most volatile teams in the SEC. Roster overhaul, a new head coach and a new offense made experts wary of the direction the once prominent program was taking.
CBS Sports ranks Texas, Georgia and Texas A&M, respectively, at the top of its latest SEC power rankings, but Florida has now cracked the top 10. Jon Sumrall’s team has been aggressive in the transfer portal and invested significantly in NIL, helping the Gators build momentum entering the 2026 season.
Rival conference coaches also point to Sumrall’s hiring of new offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner as a “home run” acquisition — and one that could turn the tide for Florida this season.
While optimism persists, the reality is that Florida’s schedule is brutal and the quarterback position is still undetermined heading into June. For the hype around the Gators to yield results, they will need to find their footing early in the season and secure winnable games at the Swamp before going on the road to face Oklahoma, Texas and Georgia.
The Gators are perhaps the SEC’s biggest wildcard and as expectations grow in Sumrall’s first season, so will the pressure.
