It appears Michigan State football is going to lose out in a key recruiting battle for an elite in-state prospect.

At one point it felt like Michigan State was in a good spot for high-end four-star edge rusher Myles Smith of Farmington, Mich. — but that is no longer the case. The latest update in Smith’s recruitment is that he has replaced his previously scheduled official visit to Michigan State with a visit to Oklahoma.

Smith was previously reportedly expected to take an official visit to Michigan State next weekend. But now according to his 247Sports’ profile, he’ll be visiting Oklahoma that weekend instead.

Smith is listed as a four-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 91.57 in 247Sports’ composite system. He ranks as the No. 23 edge rusher and No. 7 player from Michigan in the 2027 class. He is also ranked as the No. 246 overall prospect.

With Smith no longer taking an official visit to Michigan State, it appears the Spartans are essentially out of the mix for his recruitment. He will be or has already taken official visits to Indiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Missouri and Michigan, so I would assume those are the five schools truly in contention for his commitment. This is a tough blow for the Spartans as they seemed just a few weeks ago to be firmly in the mix for his recruitment but that apparently is no longer the case.
