Badgers could get starting linebacker back vs. Indiana

The Wisconsin Badgers are taking on the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers this weekend, with kickoff slated for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The 3-6 Badgers are coming off a big win over the No. 23 Washington Huskies, getting their first ranked win since 2021 as head coach Luke Fickell got his first signature win. It was an ugly 13-10 game where defense dominated, as the Badgers passed for just 48 yards, but they found a way to win and snap a six-game losing streak.

Things don’t get much easier on Saturday as they take on the 10-0 Hoosiers, who have one of the most explosive offenses in the country, ranking first in points per game at 44.5. Their defense is no joke either, ranking second in college football in points allowed per game.

But, Indiana is coming off a 27-24 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions, where they needed a last-minute drive to win the game. Before that, they had scored at least 50 points five times this season, including three times in Big Ten play.

The Badgers have had a loaded injury report the past few weeks. How are they looking on Saturday?

For Wisconsin, running back Darrion Dupree and offensive lineman Kerry Kodanko are off the injury report, so they should figure into the mix (although Gideon Ituka and Collin Cubberly got the starts last weekend).

Preston Zachman has joined Dilin Jones, Matthew Traynor, and Jake Renfro in the out-for-the-season pool, so the Badgers won’t be getting reinforcements at safety this season.

As expected, quarterback Danny O’Neil is out and freshman Carter Smith will get his first career start on Saturday.

Running back Cade Yacamelli remains out, so expect Ituka and Dupree to handle the load on the ground. Ituka has been the primary ball-carrier the last two weeks.
