The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day are off to an incredible start in the 2027 recruiting class, entering the month of June.

So far, Day and the coaching staff have landed a total of 12 commits in the upcoming recruiting class, making the Buckeyes a consensus top-10 program in the 2027 cycle. However, the prestigious program is showing no signs of slowing down heading into the summer, as Ohio State looks to be on the cusp of nabbing another big-time name.

According to college football insider Adam Gorney, the Buckeyes are now projected to land 2027 four-star defensive lineman Kasi Currie.

Currie’s Recruitment Journey

Currie has quickly become one of the hottest prospects in the upcoming recruiting class throughout his time at Sierra Canyon High School. As of this month, the talented defender is the No. 5 defensive tackle in the 2027 recruiting cycle and a top-five prospect in the state of California, per 247Sports’ Composite.

While Currie is being recruited as a defensive lineman, the rising senior has experience on both sides of the ball after playing the right tackle position for the Trailblazers in 2025. Still, despite being featured on offense and defense, the 6-foot-4, 315 lbs. playmaker proved to be a force on the defensive line over the past three seasons, recording 35 tackles, seven tackles for losses, and two sacks in 25 games.

Now, with the Buckeyes beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the programs in pursuit of Currie, there’s a good chance that the potential star could join Day’s impressive 2027 class. Outside of Ohio State, the Oregon Ducks, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Texas Longhorns are the primary schools in the hunt.

If the Buckeyes land the highly-touted recruit, Currie would become the first defensive tackle to commit to Ohio State, while also being the third defensive linemen in the bunch. Day has done a terrific job of addressing the defensive line thus far in the 2027 class by adding two talented EDGE rushers in five-star DJ Jacobs and four-star Wyatt Smith, which means Currie could be the exact piece the Buckeyes need to round out the group.
