LSU football signed the top-ranked transfer portal class in the country. The Tigers signed a handful of veterans ready to make an immediate impact, along with younger players who have several years of eligibility left. One of those younger guys is safety Faheem Delane, the brother of former LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane.

Faheem Delane arrives at LSU after spending one year at Ohio State. LSU’s safety room is crowded, raising the question of whether Delane will play much at LSU in 2026. LSU returns starter TaMarcus Cooley, DaShwan Spears will assume a bigger role, and Boise State transfer Ty Benefield will have a full-time role.

Delane’s path to the field isn’t clear. Yet, it’s hard to imagine Delane not making some type of contribution this fall. Delane was a top-100 national recruit in 2025, ranking No. 2 in the state of Maryland. He likely didn’t come cheap for LSU.

Delane stands at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, giving him good size for a safety. He made nine tackles and three stops in just 55 run defense snaps with the Buckeyes last year.

LSU could find a way to get Delane on the field vs. run heavy offenses. Cooley and Spears don’t have Delane’s size or physical presence when playing in the box. That could be an ideal place to use Delane’s skillset.

But Delane’s move to LSU wasn’t just about finding playing time in 2025. If immediate playing time was the key driver of his transfer decision, he wouldn’t be at LSU, given the depth of the Tigers’ safety room. This was a move for the future and Delane will be in a prime position to earn a starting job in 2027.

Outlook: Expect Delane to be a rotational piece in 2026, before earning the job in 2027.
