In some breaking news: Miami football is leaving the state of Florida for the first time of the 2025 college football season on Saturday, Nov. 1

And it only took 10 weeks and eight games for the Hurricanes to leave the Sunshine State.

No. 9 Miami (6-1, 2-1 in ACC play) will travel to Dallas to take on SMU (5-3, 3-1) in an important ACC matchup from Gerald J. Ford Stadium. The noon ET matchup will go a long way toward determining who gets a leg up in the conference standings.

For Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes, the Nov. 1 matchup will be their second true road game of the season, and first outside the state of Florida. Miami defeated rival Florida State on Oct. 4, but has otherwise played all its games at Hard Rock Stadium.

Here's what you need to know about Miami's travel distance during the 2025 college football season:

Miami has arguably had one of the more bizarre schedules this season. The Hurricanes opened the season at home against Notre Dame with a 27-24 win. They then hosted Bethune-Cookman, South Florida and Florida at home at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Hurricanes then had two bye weeks sandwiched between their only other road game so far this season on Oct. 4. Even with two weeks of rest and another home game against Louisville, Miami saw its ACC championship odds and College Football Playoff odds slashed with a loss to the Cardinals.

Miami beat Stanford last week at home for its sixth home game this season. Including the 24 miles from the University of Miami campus to Hard Rock Stadium, the Hurricanes have traveled a total of 1,959.4 miles this season. Of that, 1,323.7 miles comes on this trip to SMU.

Last week, Stanford traveled 3,000.4 miles from Palo Alto, California, to Hard Rock Stadium for the game against Miami. In Week 8 alone, four Big Ten teams traveled farther than Miami has the entire season. This was some of the Big Ten travel mileage in Week 8:

  1. Oregon at Rutgers: 2,916 miles
  2. Maryland at UCLA: 2,672 miles
  3. Washington at Michigan: 2,294 miles
  4. USC at Notre Dame: 2,099 miles

It should be noted that the Hurricanes did travel 3,015 miles in 2024 for a matchup against Cal. Also, while Miami has been in the state of Florida for the first nine weeks of the college football season, three of its final five games are on the road.
