Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables has worked hard to build a roster capable of competing in the Southeastern Conference, and his toil began to bear fruit in 2025. OU won 10 games and made the College Football Playoff, navigating a brutal SEC schedule.

Now, the goal in Norman is to make the CFP each and every year and compete at the highest level once they get there. To do that, you need depth all over the roster, but also top-end talent that can excel in the biggest moments.

On3 Sports released their list of the top 100 players in college football for the 2026 season, and four OU players made the cut for writer Clark Brooks. Unsurprisingly, three of those four players came on the defensive side of the ball, Venables’ expertise.

First up was junior defensive lineman David Stone, who ranked No. 20 on the list. Stone had a breakout season in 2025, making good on all of the potential that made him a five-star prospect coming out of high school. He showed strong play against the run and the pass. With four defensive linemen heading to the NFL last month, more responsibility will fall on Stone in 2026.

Next, redshirt-senior linebacker Kip Lewis was the No. 52 player on the list. Lewis became a starter midway through the 2023 season, and he hasn’t looked back since. He’s the longest-tenured Sooner on the roster, and one of only four that remain from Venables’ first season in 2022. Lewis is the leader and emotional heartbeat of the OU defense, and his relentless energy is unmatched on gameday.

Redshirt-junior defensive lineman Taylor Wein came in as the 75th-ranked player on the list, and he also had a breakout season in 2025. In a matter of weeks, Wein went from unknown to a household name in Norman, and he’ll look to build on that success this year. As Oklahoma looks for leaders to replace the departed seniors defensively, Wein is a prime candidate to fill one of those roles.

Offensively, redshirt-senior wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III was ranked as the No. 78 player on the list. After transferring in from Arkansas last season, Sategna became OU’s top WR and the offense’s most consistent weapon, showcasing his knack for big plays and his electric speed. As the Sooners rebuild the wideout room around him, they hope that defenses won’t be able to place as much focus on him in 2026, which should open up more room in the secondary for the speedster.

Notably, Oklahoma players like quarterback John Mateer, defensive lineman Jayden Jackson, linebacker Owen Heinecke, and defensive back Peyton Bowen did not make the cut.

As the Sooners look to book a return trip to the playoff, look for more than four players to be on this type of list at the end of the season, especially if OU is successful in doing so.
