Expectations are high for Nebraska football internally in 2026. Externally, others are doubtful that Nebraska can be good this year. Regardless of opinion, to win on the college football recruiting trail, the recruit has to buy into what is being sold by the coaching staff.
Matt Rhule and Nebraska did a good job selling their plan to their latest commitment, securing a four-star offensive tackle, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
“Four-Star OT Timi Aliu has Committed to Nebraska, he tells me for Rivals. The 6’5 315 OT chose the Cornhuskers over Florida, Georgia, and Clemson,” Fawcett posted on X, formerly Twitter.
This was a huge win for Nebraska, not only getting a quality offensive tackle for the Class of 2027, but stealing one from Georgia’s backyard. Aliu is from Locust Grove, Georgia. He spoke about why he chose Nebraska with Chad Simmons of Rivals.
“They’ve been putting me very hard since that first time visiting in the fall,” Aliu told Rivals. “From that time, they made me feel very important. The coaches called and texted me a lot. They came to see me in January, then again this spring, so they have really done a great job recruiting me. It never changed, and that meant a lot.”
Aliu would visit Nebraska five times during the process, and each visit got them closer to a commitment.
“They just kept making sure I got back up to Lincoln to hang with the guys, hang with the players and recruits… they just showed me so much love. They always wanted me there. The connections and the relationships made me ready to pull the trigger,” Aliu added.
Over the last week, Nebraska also got commitments from Jordan Agbanoma and KD Jones, both friends of Aliu.
“Ever since Jordan committed, I thought more about it. Nebraska has always been on top for me, then after Jordan and KD committed, I knew it. It has always felt like home for me at Nebraska.”
Nebraska now has 11 commitments for the Class of 2027, ranking 14th in the nation and sixth in the Big Ten.
