After decommitting from Notre Dame earlier this year, four-star linebacker Ellis McGaskin is preparing for two major official visits this summer. One of those stops will be in Gainesville with Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 210-pound defender recorded 160 tackles and 26 tackles for loss in his junior season at Williamson High School, where he also recorded four sacks. He also blocked four punts, forced two fumbles and had an interception during the campaign.
Drawing attention from a host of SEC programs, McGaskin is viewed as a game-changer at his position. Florida sees the Mobile, Alabama, native as a second-level prospect that would be perfectly in Sumrall’s aggressive defensive philosophy. Official visit season presents an opportunity for the Gators to maintain the momentum that catapulted them to No. 4 on ESPN’s latest recruiting rankings.
After joining a loaded group for Florida’s first official visit weekend on May 28-30, Gaskins follows his trip to Gainesville with a stop in Baton Rouge for a tour with LSU on June 19.
Ellis McGaskin’s recruiting summary
McGaskin is slated at No. 353 overall and No. 28 at his position according to 247Sports composite, while On3 industry rankings have him at Nos. 343 and 30, respectively. He has 40 total offers, including 15 SEC programs; among them Georgia, LSU and Alabama.
According to On3, LSU holds the highest probability to land the blue-chip backer at 66.2%, followed by Notre Dame at 25.4%, Georgia at 2.1% and Florida State at 1.5%.
