Can't Wait For Saturday The more the SEC squawks about expanded playoff field, the better I like the Big Ten stance

During Tuesday's SEC media event in Florida, ESPN's Paul Finebaum — aka the "Mount of the South" — actually said of the 24-team College Football Playoff proposal "This is one of the worst decisions, if it happens, in the history of college football."
He followed that line with "I know that sounds hyperbolic."
You think?
I'm sure if we pondered it a second or two, we could come up with worse decisions in the history of college football. Like waiting so long to even start a playoff in Division I while every other level of college football had a season ending tournament.
The mistake in this case would be in listening to anyone from the "take care of us first" SEC. The conference that considers itself superior in all things college football appears bothered by the idea of inclusion. Watching Indiana — Indiana ?!?! — walk away with the big trophy could not have gone over well in Tuscaloosa, Athens and Oxford. In the minds of the SEC, the big trophy belongs to them always. They invented college football. Not really, but they think they did.
The Big Ten has won three titles in a row with a good chance to make it a four-peat. Someone in the SEC must have figured out a bigger playoff is bad for the league. Expect more chatter to follow.
The league's coaches don't care how many teams. They want a fair shot, which they will get with a 12-, 16- or 24-team field.
If the 24-teamer had been in place for 2025, the SEC would have received at least eight bids. Maybe more.
The only way to give more teams a chance to win it all is for opportunities to increase. A study showed had the 24-team field been in place since 2016, 80 programs would have earned at least one bid. That is the right direction for college football, not the 'worst decision in history.'
