Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson reached another milestone a few weeks ago when Boynton Beach High School officially retired his No. 7 jersey and renamed the street outside the school “Lamar Jackson Way,” in recognition of one of the most accomplished athletes in school history.
Speaking about the ceremony at OTAs on Wednesday, Jackson described the experience as deeply meaningful.
“It was just a great experience for me,” Jackson said. “I loved it.”
The celebration honored Jackson’s remarkable football journey from Palm Beach County standout to two-time NFL MVP and one of the most dynamic quarterbacks of his generation. In a symbolic tribute tied to Jackson’s jersey number, local officials also adjusted the speed limit on the newly renamed street to seven miles per hour.
Long before becoming the face of the Ravens franchise, Jackson established himself as one of Florida’s most electrifying high school players while starring under longtime Boynton Beach coach Rick Swain.

Jackson emerged as one of the nation’s premier dual-threat quarterback prospects and quickly became one of the most recognizable players in Florida high school football. According to 247Sports, Jackson ranked as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback nationally and the No. 31 overall prospect in Florida, while Scout.com listed him among the top players in the South Region.
His production at Boynton Beach became impossible to overlook.
Jackson earned Florida Class 6A All-State First Team honors as a utility player and later became the first player in school history to win the prestigious Lou Groza High School Player of the Year Award.
His senior season remains one of the most productive campaigns in state history.
Jackson passed for 1,293 yards and 20 touchdowns during the 2014 season while adding 1,039 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on the ground. His performances routinely overwhelmed opponents, including one outing in which he threw for 346 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 146 yards and five additional scores. During another memorable game, Jackson rushed for 237 yards on only 14 carries as Boynton Beach accumulated 606 rushing yards in a victory over Lake Worth.
Even before that dominant senior season, Jackson had already developed into a rising national prospect after throwing for 1,740 yards and 25 touchdowns while rushing for 1,401 yards and 16 scores during his junior campaign.
The success continued at Louisville.
Jackson became one of college football’s most decorated players during his time with the Cardinals, winning the 2016 Heisman Trophy as the youngest player ever to capture the award. He also earned the Davey O’Brien Award, the Maxwell Award, and ACC Player of the Year honors while rewriting conference and school record books.
His transition to the NFL only expanded the legacy.
Since arriving in Baltimore as a first-round selection in 2018, Jackson has developed into one of the league’s premier quarterbacks while winning two MVP awards and helping keep the Ravens consistently among the AFC contenders.
The jersey retirement ceremony represented something different, however.
For Jackson, the event connected the earliest stages of his football journey with everything that followed. For Boynton Beach High School, it permanently tied one of the most important figures in school history to the campus and community where his rise began. Future generations arriving at the school will now pass through Lamar Jackson Way before seeing his retired No. 7 honored inside the stadium.
For a player who transformed from a local star to an international football icon, the moment marked another chapter in a legacy that continues to grow both in Baltimore and back home in South Florida.
