Big recruiting weekend ahead for LSU

The warm sun is out, the fresh air is blowing, and in south Louisiana the crawfish pots are rolling. When this time of year arrives, it means the LSU campus is being explored by elite high school football talent that could find itself playing for the Tigers in the months to come.

This weekend is no different.

Lane Kiffin is in the midst of his first offseason and now has his sights set on building his very first full recruiting class at LSU. And what a way for him and the staff to kick things off.

One of the biggest moves made heading into the week was Kiffin bringing Ed Orgeron back to LSU. One of the best recruiters in the nation — and the head coach who assembled arguably the greatest college football team ever — is not only back in the building, but is now tasked with helping this staff close out the recruiting class.

The timing could not have been better.

The first weekend of official visits will be headlined by four 5-star prospects — yes, you read that right.

5-star EDGE Abraham Sesay, the No. 2 edge rusher in the country, will be in attendance. Notre Dame currently leads his recruitment, but Sesay has stated that he plans to explore all of his top offers.

5-star DL Jalen Brewster, the No. 1 overall prospect in the country and a current Texas Tech commit, will also be visiting Baton Rouge.

Another major visitor is 5-star WR Xavier Sabb, the No. 7 wide receiver in the country.

And of course, there is 5-star WR Easton Royal, widely viewed as the best wide receiver in the class and possibly the best overall athlete as well. Royal is from New Orleans and attends Brother Martin High School. He is currently committed to Texas, but Kiffin and the Tiger staff have been aggressively pursuing his commitment since arriving in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers will also host 4-star safety Adryan Cole from Douglasville, Georgia. Cole ranks among the top five safeties in the nation, and Georgia appears to be the team LSU must beat in this recruitment.

Last but certainly not least is 3-star CB Markez Davis out of Northwest High School in Opelousas. Davis fits the prototypical Corey Raymond defensive back mold. At 6-foot-3 and 178 pounds, he possesses a long, athletic frame. He plays both wide receiver and cornerback while also competing in basketball.

The first official visit weekend is underway in a major way for Kiffin and the Tigers, and hopefully it turns out to be a great one.
