The Wolverines picked up their first linebacker in the 2027 recruiting class on Friday, as three-star Brayden Watson announced his commitment to Michigan.

The Buford, Georgia product is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He picked the Wolverines over other offers from USC, Oregon, Pitt, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and more.

New linebackers coach Alex Whittingham offered Watson in January and prioritized him throughout his recruitment. Watson visited back in April and had a lot of great things to say about his time.

“It was a great visit and Ann Arbor is a great place to be,” Watson told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich at the time. “My favorite parts were watching practice and bowling with the coaching staff. In all honesty, I liked all the coaches. Even coaches I wouldn’t play for, like the offensive guys, came and spoke to me and my family, expressing their great interest in me. It didn’t feel like Coach Whittingham is recruiting me, but all of Michigan is.

“The facilities are definitely top of the line. They also made sure to cater to any need from me or my family. They simply made it clear I was a priority.”

Watson — who is the 16th member of Michigan’s 2027 class — is ranked No. 787 overall on the Rivals Industry Rankings. Check out his junior year highlights below.
