Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup: Latest News From The Trail

Let's recap all the latest recruiting news from Notre Dame over the past seven days. While the Irish were able to land a big fish in the Class of 2027, Notre Dame extended fewer offers this week compared to the past. Camp season, though, is on the horizon, and the Irish will certainly be looking to add players to their board when prospects get on campus and compete. Here’s the latest.

Notre Dame Lands Four-Star Edge

Oradell, N.J./Bergen Catholic edge Jackson Vaughn gave Notre Dame his verbal commitment.  Vaughn, who I got to see in-person last summer, is a tremendous prospect with huge upside potential. Explosive, fast and quick, and with an excellent frame to boot, he will be a dream prospect for new defensive line coach Charlie Partridge when he arrives on campus next year. On top of his athletic ability on the field, Vaughn, who reclassified to the Class of 2027, is also a great, highly-motivated person whose talents should shine in an Irish uniform. Vaughn picked the Irish over Auburn, Miami, LSU, and South Carolina.

New Offers

The Irish didn’t offer a bunch of new prospects like they have over the past several weeks, but they did manage to extend opportunities to two of Vaughn’s teammates who have tremendous upside: Oradall, N.J./Bergen Catholic twin brothers Amir Woodward and Adrian Woodward. The twin brothers have tremendous athletic ability and should shine at the next level.

Adrian is a talented safety with tremendous ball skills, range and closing speed. Amir, meanwhile, starts as a corner and has excellent coverage skills with ability to play press. I love Amir’s physicality and Adrian’s hard-hitting, physical and tough play style which oozes on tape. Both players are track stars, with Adrian posting a 21.32 time in the 200-meter dash, just 0.01 off his brother’s school record. Both are consensus four-star prospects in the Class of 2028.

Keep An Eye On In-State Prospects

The Irish will host their annual specialist camp on Sunday afternoon. A punter I’ll be keeping tabs on is Westfield, Ind./Westfield kicker Nick Beam. The in-state kicker has a cannon for a leg. Two international prospects to keep an eye on are kickers Charlie Finnegan and Darragh Gilsenan. This camp is a major attraction for specialists. Asheville, N.C./Christian Academy long snapper Sean Kraft was offered after this camp last season and committed to Notre Dame just days later.

Notre Dame will host their first of several underclassmen prospect camps next Friday on June 5, and we’re making plans to be there  One big-time prospect I’m really excited about is in-state Class of 2029 linebacker Austin Phillips out of Kendalville, Ind./East Noble. Phillips is a hard-hitting linebacker/running back who excels on both sides of the ball, very similar to current Notre Dame senior linebacker DraykBowen. Phillips recorded 99 total tackles last season and added 967 yards and 11 touchdowns on offense; I’m expecting his recruiting to pick up in a huge way, and an early offer from the Irish is certainly not out of the question.
