Elite Alabama Commit, Elijah Haven Unfazed By Crowded Quarterback Room

When the University of Alabama received a commitment from five-star quarterback Elijah Haven, it didn’t just get the top quarterback in the 2027 class, it got a player unintimidated by his peers.

Aside from Alabama, Haven was highly sought after, especially from programs such as LSU, Georgia and Florida. And as a Baton Rouge native, many had believed that he was destined to be a Tiger.

But Haven had other plans. Tuscaloosa came calling.

This weekend, Haven and four-star commit Trent Seaborn were invited to participate in the Elite 11 camp – a camp devoted to the top high school quarterbacks in the nation, participating in various events to be scouted from some of the top recruiters.

Haven sat down with both Tom Loy and Andrew Ivins of 247Sports to talk through his decision to commit to the Crimson Tide.

“Being a hometown guy, a lot of people expect you to stay in ‘The Boot,’” he said. “That’s the motto ‘the best in The Boot, stay in The Boot.’ But ultimately throughout my recruiting process, we felt like there were better schools for me and my future.”

That school ended up being Alabama – a program that continues to attract elite quarterbacks despite already having one of the deepest quarterback rooms in the country.

Beyond Austin Mack and Keelon Russell for this season, the Crimson Tide also have Jett Thomalla and Tayden Kaawa in the wings, as well as Haven and Seaborn.

Many quarterbacks his age might shy away from that kind of competition, especially if it means waiting their turn. But Haven was certain that Alabama was the ideal place for him and his future.

“It ultimately came down to me not being afraid to compete. But also trusting in the coaches. My relationship with them, even through some changes, they were so consistent and that went a long way for me and my family.”

He also talked about Alabama’s approach to recruiting, as he showed appreciation for Alabama’s emphasis on recruiting high school players, rather than hunting in the transfer portal.

“They had expressed that they want to stay with high school guys. If they have to go in the portal, that’s obviously an option, but their priority is the high school guys. That’s one thing they made sure me and my family knew and we definitely took that into consideration.”

Not only that, he made sure to tell Loy and Ivins that the sales pitch has been heavy for wide receivers Monshun “Bama” Sales and Osani Gayles – both of whom are currently in Tuscaloosa for official visits.

“[There are] some guys on the OV (official visit) right now, Monshun Sales, as we call him ‘Bama’ up there, a wide receiver. Also Osani Gayles, who’s another top wide receiver in the class. But definitely trying to rally them up, with the motto being ‘Bama is the place to be.’”

Even though Haven is a year away from enrolling, he’s taken a page out of Seaborn’s playbook in being a recruiter.

In an era where many quarterbacks look for the clearest path to playing time, Haven is taking a different approach. Alabama's quarterback room may be crowded, but that's exactly what attracted him to Tuscaloosa in the first place.
