The weekend is here and recruiting news is all over the place. The Longhorns have officially entered a month of important visits from elite prospects, starting with a loaded group this weekend. As for this past week, there were quite a few updates on major Texas recruitments, some great for the Longhorns, some not so great.
Here are the major updates heading into an important stretch for Texas:
Easton Royal – Texas WR Commit
The crown jewel of the Longhorns class has made his way to Baton Rouge for this visit with the Tigers. Royal was pictured with Ed Orgeron, who recently returned to the staff, on his visit. It seems Texas is in the driver’s seat but the next time I doubt Orgeron recruiting a Louisiana product will be the first. This is going to be a fight until the finish line and LSU isn’t going away.
Reed Ramsier – IOL Target
The Longhorns earned a spot in Ramsier’s final two teams, along with Auburn, this week. The Orlando, Florida product ranks as the No. 18 IOL in the country and brings elite size to the table, at 6 '4”, 290lbs. Ramsier cancelled his visit to Clemson scheduled for this weekend. He’ll be in Austin in two weeks, after going to Auburn next week. This could be a massive addition to a big-time OL class for Texas.
Ismael Camara – OL Target
One of the interesting updates from the recruiting trail is Camara cancelling all his official visits for this summer. Camara cited the need to continue progressing toward an early high school graduation as the reason. It seems this recruitment is a Oregon-Texas battle with Texas A&M involved. We likely won’t hear concrete news until later in the summer.
John Meredith III – CB Target
The five-star, No. 2 player in the country is in College Station this weekend. It’s assumed the Aggies are battling the Longhorns for this commitment at this point. Texas A&M seemingly is making a strong impression this weekend but Texas will get their chance to counter next weekend. Ohio State is still in the battle and will get the final visit, but this seems to be a Texas-Texas A&M battle.
Briceson Thrower – WR Target
Another top Texas target is in Aggieland this weekend. The North Forney product will follow up his trip to College Station with a trip to Texas Tech. Texas will get the final word in a few weeks and seemingly is in the catbird’s seat. A commitment will likely come after the official visits and it’s an important decision for Texas.
Graham Simpson – 2028 QB Target
The 2027 cycle will be getting all the attention this month but 2028 recruiting has already begun. The four-star QB is the son of UT-Martin head coach Jason Simpson and former Alabama, now Rams QB Ty Simpson. He led Westview High School to a 14-1 to a 3A state championship, touting a ridiculous 57-1 TD to INT ratio. According to Hank South, the intriguing prospect will visit Austin next week on June 3rd to workout for Steve Sarkisian and the staff. The recruitment is young but this is something to watch.
