Auburn football just claimed a stunning early victory over Alabama under new head coach Alex Golesh. This time swooping up a former Crimson Tide 2027 pledge on the College Football Recruiting trail.
Nash Johnson officially flips from ‘Bama to the rival Tigers, confirming his Sunday decision to Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. He included a “watch me work,” message in announcing his flip.
New Auburn cornerbacks coach DeMarcus Van Dyke helped Golesh pull off the change of heart for the three-star. The standout from Powder Springs, Georgia power McEachern High immediately shared with Chad Simmons of On3/Rivals why Auburn won him over.
“It always felt like home for me there. I have been there a lot, and I love the coaches, the players and the environment,” Johnson shared, while adding the presence of Van Dyke help sweeten the deal.
Auburn didn’t just win this one over Alabama. Simmons added Miami rose as a late contender for the 6-foot-1 CB. Clemson out of the Atlantic Coast Conference made a late push too. Johnson even received in-state love from Georgia, including setting up a future official visit for June. But that trip to Athens likely won’t happen with his Auburn decision.
Johnson’s recruiting stock hit a rise before the month of June. Other power conference representatives Kentucky, Missouri and Georgia Tech made a pursuit. The Tigers and all the other powers likely fawned over Johnson’s press jam ability at the line of scrimmage. But he brings high instincts with his jump timing in pass breakups plus creating turnovers. He becomes an immediate man coverage option down the road.
Golesh and Auburn have delivered recruiting wins already, including nabbing four-star tackle Layton Von Brandt from Notre Dame.
