Texas A&M football is coming off of a breakout season in 2025 that saw it make the College Football Playoff for the first time. Mike Elko has turned the Aggies into one of the top programs in the SEC, and they will have very high expectations coming into the 2026 season as well.

A lot of those expectations come from returning continuity. Quarterback Marcel Reed is expected to be back as QB1 after starting the full season in 2025, improving rapidly as a passer while hurting defenses with his legs. Reed is a dark horse Heisman Trophy candidate and gives this Texas A&M offense a very high ceiling.

During the offseason, Reed is doing a bit of talking in the direction of Texas A&M’s rivals. During a youth football camp, Reed sent a strong message to LSU, via On3 Sports.

“I don’t lose to LSU,” Reed said at his camp.

The facts back up what Reed is saying. In 2024, he entered the game in relief at quarterback and led Texas A&M to a big home win over LSU. In 2025, Reed went into Baton Rouge and got another victory on the Aggies’ way to the CFP. In 2026, he will be looking to make it three in a row over the Tigers and back up his statement.

Things will be a little bit more difficult against LSU next season after the Tigers brought in Lane Kiffin to be their next head coach. Kiffin has usually not wasted much time building his teams into contenders in the SEC, and that should be the case again with all of the resources that he has to recruit and build the roster at LSU.

Reed will have a number of his top weapons back to throw the ball to next season, including potential first-round pick Mario Craver. While it will be difficult to replace the production of KC Concepcion, the Aggies have a lot of talent ready to step up at wide receiver.

Texas A&M and LSU will battle in 2026 early in the season on Sept. 26, where Reed will have the chance to back up his trash talk.
