Official collegiate visiting season has begun, and LSU came out of the blocks like Usain Bolt.
The Tigers rolled out the red carpet for some of the nation’s best athletes, including the No. 1 overall player in Jaylen Brewster and No. 1 wide receiver in Easton Royal. LSU also hosted Xavier Sabb, Adryan Cole, Abraham Sesay, and in-state prospect Markez Davis.
Kiffin and his staff pulled out all the stops for every recruit they hosted this weekend. The Tigers have had to play catch-up with some of the nation’s top prospects, and this weekend they were able to do just that.
The tours of Tiger Stadium and LSU’s campus, the photoshoots, and opportunity to showcase all of the trophies and awards won by legendary LSU players were some fantastic recruiting tools. However, there is one card that no other school in the country can play: the Coach O card.
Ed Orgeron was present and spent some personal time with each recruit. Making a major impression on Jaylen Brewster and Easton Royal, in particular. LSU’s investment in bringing Coach O back has already shown a return based on the social media storm that he helped create. Whether it was working on defensive line technique with Jaylen Brewster at what appeared to be a restaurant or taking recruits through the Tiger Stadium tunnel to preview the pregame walkout, Coach O’s impact was impossible to miss.
Coach O can do something that Lane Kiffin cannot.
He can sell not only LSU, but also the culture and heartbeat of Louisiana. He can show these recruits what it truly means to play for the Tigers and represent the state. He can speak to them about his experiences at other programs while explaining just how special it is to find success at LSU and how that success can translate into lifelong opportunities.
Coach O can be the face of LSU’s recruiting brand while Kiffin focuses on being Kiffin.
This weekend officially introduced the dynamic duo of Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron and the recruits were not the only ones who took notice. The rest of the college football world noticed as well.
LSU fans thought they had already witnessed something just different. This weekend showed that there is still another level left to reach.
