Star Missouri football linebacker Josiah Trotter was ejected from the Tigers’ game against Mississippi State on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Columbia after a second-quarter targeting call.
Johnson was called for a personal foul after making helmet-to-helmet contact with Mississippi State quarterback Blake Shapen in the pocket. The officials called a personal foul with targeting, and after a short review the call was upheld.
Trotter, who has been one of the standout players on the Missouri defense this season, will miss the remainder of the game. He was the second Mizzou player to be ejected for targeting in the first half, after defensive end Nate Johnson was ejected for a similar play in the first quarter.
Missouri is now likely to run with a primarily three-man rotation at linebacker, with Khalil Jacobs, Triston Newson and Nicholas Rodriguez likely to take a bulk of the reps.
If MU goes further down the depth chart, sophomore Jeremiah Beasley would be next in line at middle linebacker.
Trotter will not be eligible to return for Missouri for the remainder of Saturday’s game. Because the foul occurred in the first half, he will be eligible to play next Saturday at Oklahoma and will not need to sit out a half.
At the time of the ejection, Missouri led 14-10 but Mississippi State was in the red zone.
