Rutgers Football wraps up big 2027 recruiting weekend

It was a busy weekend of recruiting for Rutgers and it led to multiple pieces being added in the Class of 2027.

Head coach Greg Schiano has continued to preach how he wants the Scarlet Knights to be a developmental program and this begins with the recruiting process out of high school.

Rutgers added six new members of the class, growing it to 13 to this point.

Here is a quick look at the newest members of the recruiting class:

  • Jackson Albright, OL: The 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman became the fourth offensive lineman in the class after announcing his decision. Albright is out of Pennsylvania who held other offers from UConn, Syracuse, and Temple.
  • Charles Butler, OL: Butler has been an anchor at left tackle for Bishop Canevin during his high school career. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound lineman held offers from Temple, Akron, James Madison, and Kent State.
  • Aaron Southard, OL: Schiano hit the recruiting class hard along the offensive line. Southard is another 300-pound product that committed to the Scarlet Knights. He was offered following a workout with offensive line coach Jim Turner in March.
  • Josiah Sturdivant, DE: Schiano hit the defensive side with Sturdivant committing. The 6-foot-4 edge opened eyes during his junior year at Wake Forest High School. He totaled 51 tackles, 15.5 for loss, with eight sacks and one forced fumble.
  • Zion Vilma, ATH: Vilma is a three-star athlete who has doubled as a wide receiver and cornerback for Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School in Florida. Vilma chose Rutgers over other big-time offers such as Georgia, Florida State, Iowa State, Miami, and Mississippi State.
  • Zion Watson, S: Watson is regarded as an athlete since he is a successful receiver in high school but projects as a defensive back at theBig Ten level. He is a track star who went over 1,000 receiving yards last season. This means he has the overall skillset to compete at the highest level.
