The Oklahoma Sooners are recruiting better than anyone in the country, and they are tapping into the state like never before.

The Oklahoma Sooners are recruiting better than anyone in the country right now. They have the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2027 cycle. However, what’s even more impressive is that they have built that class with five top-50 recruits.

When you peel back the layers of the onion even more, it gets better. Three of those five are from Oklahoma. According to Parker Thune of SoonerScoop, Oklahoma has never produced three national top-50 recruits in the same cycle. 2027 is the first time ever, and they are all Sooners. This just shows how much more rooted the Sooners are in the state under Brent Venables.

When Lincoln Riley was the head coach, it felt like the state’s talent was ignored way too often. Venables had been made aware of that, and as he has said a million times, he’s been wanting to tap back into the state, a state that loves football dearly. The Sooners sit at the top of the 2027 rankings, representing their own. Four of their commits are from Oklahoma.

Sooners can still continue to build on this elite 2027 class

Sooners could still land two more players from Oklahoma. They have made a big impression on local high school tight end Ben Kolar. The 2027 four-star tight end attends Norman North and just finished his junior season with 653 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Kolar is a tight end everyone seems to want, as evidenced by all the recent visits he’s received. However, he recently visited the school in his backyard again, and it’s clear the Sooners could be a team he plays for in 2027.

Then there is Case Alexander. They could earn a commitment from the elite four-star linebacker. He’s also in-state as his final year of HS football will be played at Washington next season.

But, having that in-state advantage isn’t as big as it usually is. The Sooners have some stiff competition for Alexander, as Penn State seems to be a team that also really, really wants him. And, to be frank, he wants them, too, because who wouldn’t want to play with their older brother? Alexander’s older brother goes to Penn State, and surely he’s done some recruiting of his own. Those are the two schools he will likely decide between. So, the Sooners can still get even better with their in-state talent on their current committed list.
