Arch Manning and Texas football sustained a slight setback in Week 12.
Following his best outing of the season against Vanderbilt before the bye week, the quarterback finished with 251 yards and one touchdown to one interception in the No. 10-ranked Longhorns‘ (No. 10 in College Football Playoff Ranking) 35-10 loss to No. 5 Georgia (No. 5 in CFP rankings) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia.
That stat line stands in stark contrast to his Georgia counterpart Gunner Stockton, who completed 24 of 29 passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns to one interception while rushing for another score. Moreover, the loss is Manning’s third as Texas’ starting quarterback, moving his record to 9-3 in starts (including games vs. Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State from last season).
Manning’s lone interception of the night came on third-and-four in the second quarter at the Georgia 29-yard line, as Texas was knocking on the door of the red zone, when KJ Bolden picked him off after his throw sailed past several receivers. He took three sacks on the night, as well.
He finished the first half without a touchdown pass, as he completed 12 of 19 passes for 125 yards. His best throw on the half (and the game) came in the second quarter, with Texas facing first-and-15 at its 4-yard line. He dumped off a pass to Emmett Mosley V for a 43-yard gain as the pocket was collapsing.
