For a team that missed the College Football Playoff in 2025, Texas is doing a lot of talking in the offseason. Head coach Steve Sarkisian ripped Ole Miss for “basket-weaving” classes. Meanwhile, other players are claiming that the Longhorns can win the National Championship in 2026.

Now, Colin Simmons, who led the SEC in sacks in 2026, is sending a clear warning to Ohio State and the rest of college football, per Pete Nakos of On3.

“Very excited. Second game of the season, all that nervousness, all that jittery is out the door,” Simmons said. “We’re coming. There’s business to be taken care of.”

There is business to be taken care of in the second game of the year. Texas will open the season against Texas State before hosting Ohio State in Week 2. Last year, the Longhorns and Buckeyes faced off in Columbus in the first game of the season. Texas lost the game 14-7, one of three losses that caused them to miss the playoffs. Simmons had just two tackles in the game and did not hit Julian Sayin, despite being a top-quality pass rusher.

Meanwhile, Ohio State would not have another close game the rest of the regular season, but would fall in the Big Ten Championship and the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff.

The game against Ohio State could set the tone for Texas this year and serve as a major stepping stone toward its goals.

“National championship, dog, the national championship,” said Simmons, asked about his goals for the 2026 season. “All the individual rewards will come with it, but I just want to win. Win, win, win.”

Winning could be coming for the Longhorns this year. They return a stacked roster that includes Arch Manning. Texas also brought in a top ten transfer portal class, led by Cam Coleman, heading to Austin from Auburn. Still, the drive for the team comes from missing the playoffs.

“It gave everybody on the team a little bit of drive, even the coaches, especially Coach Sark,” Simmons said. “I feel like he made a bunch of moves leading into this upcoming year that’s going to cause us not to miss that CFP. I feel extremely confident. We got some playmakers on this team, we got some ballers on this team, on both sides of the ball. We got a hell of a quarterback, and we got great coaches. I’m very confident in my game and the defense.”

Texas opens the year at 3:30 pm ET on September 5 at home against Texas State.
