Oregon football made up for a notable four-star College Football Recruiting loss Wednesday. They landed a four-star defender after losing running back target Noah Roberts to Texas one week ago. This incoming linebacker Toa Satele even turned down the Longhorns for the Ducks, plus Notre Dame.

The Ducks end up winning the recruitment of the Mililani, Hawai’i talent over the two powers. Satele pulled back the curtain on why he chose Oregon to Greg Biggins of On3/Rivals.

“I knew Oregon was home for me,” Satele said to the national recruiting analyst. “I have great relationships over there and have a strong comfort level with the coaches and the players on the team.”

Trips to Eugene sealed it for Satele too.

“I’ve been multiple times on visits and to a game and I have a really strong comfort level,” he said. “Some of the coaches I’ve known since I was a freshman and I know those guys will look out for me and take care of me on and off the field.”

Coach Dan Lanning rises as a big winner here. Satele at 6-foot-3, 215-pound presents the athleticism and versatility to thrive in this defense. Oregon likely will plug him on the outside, but then allow him to slide inside to snuff out the run.

Oregon adds someone from an NFL household too. Satele’s father landed with the Miami Dolphins during the 2007 NFL Draft. The dad later played for the Oakland Raiders and Indianapolis Colts before delivering one more stint with Miami.

The younger Satele becomes the second four-star defensive addition in a month to Oregon. The Ducks landed safety Semaj Stanford over Georgia and Texas back on April 23.
