The Wisconsin Badgers have scored a big win on the recruitment front on Wednesday, with four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams announcing that he is taking his talents to Madison to play for Wisconsin football in 2027.
Williams originally committed to the Florida State Seminoles before decommitting.
The Badgers were among the three finalists on Williams’ list, which includes the LSU Tigers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
“I was building a relationship with the coaches and the relationship between us was strong. I couldn’t turn that down,” Williams said about his decision to commit to Wisconsin football, via the broadcast of his decision on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube Channel. “And the academic programs there are great, so that is the reason I chose Wisconsin.”

The 6-3, 165-pound Williams also had a head-turning way to announce his commitment decision. After tossing aside a Nebraska cap, he reached for an LSU cap and wore it.
But that turned out to be a gimmick, as he later took off the cap and threw it away before getting the Wisconsin cap and wearing it. For good measure, Williams flashed a “W” sign.

Williams, who is a four-star defensive back playing for Lennard High School in Ruskin, Florida, is one of the five four-star 2027 recruits that the Badgers have secured, thus far. Overall, Wisconsin had 17 commits for 2027.
