On Wednesday afternoon, 5-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant flipped from LSU to Miami. Bryant had recently visited Miami this past week, with news already bubbling around a potential flip for the highly touted pass rusher.
Bryant was the first commitment in LSU’s 2027 recruiting class under Lane Kiffin. His commitment coincided with the hiring of edge coach Sterling Lucas from South Carolina, making Bryant one of the foundational pieces of the class.
The news of Bryant’s flip is a bit surprising considering that earlier in the day he moved up his official visit to South Carolina and reaffirmed his commitment to the Tigers by tweeting, “Geaux Tiger 🐯🐯… in case y’all forgot.”
Of course, theories surrounding NIL influence are swirling following the announcement. The fact that Bryant has now shut down his recruitment only amplifies those theories.
The loss of Bryant is significant for LSU’s 2027 recruiting class, but Kiffin and his staff have done a great job positioning themselves for a suitable replacement. LSU hosted 5-star edge rusher Abraham Sesay on an official visit last week and will now welcome 4-star, Top-10 edge prospect KJ Green to campus this week.
Sesay thoroughly enjoyed his official visit to LSU, and the Tigers have a legitimate chance to secure his commitment. Meanwhile, Green has begun trending toward LSU because his first college offer came in the eighth grade from current LSU edge coach Sterling Lucas while Lucas was coaching at South Carolina.
Lucas has maintained that relationship over the years, and given the circumstances surrounding Bryant’s departure, expect Lucas and the rest of the LSU staff to turn up the pressure in the recruitment of both Sesay and Green.
Another factor to consider is that the potential NIL resources that were set aside for Bryant can now be allocated elsewhere within the class.
Recruiting season is really heating up, and with another group of prospects set to arrive on campus this weekend, more news is sure to be on the way.
